ADMISSION POLICY & REQUIREMENTS St. Mary’s will adhere to the following for school admission: 1. Any current family registered and with financial matters in good standing will be guaranteed a position for the next school year. 2. When openings occur they will be filled first by current parish members, by Catholics from other parishes, and then by position on an “open” waiting list. 3. Any family owing money at the end of a school year will be denied future enrollment until financial arrangements have been made. 4. Any student/family requesting admission and meeting the above qualifications will be granted “temporary” admission until all admission materials are in. This includes any testing for learning disabilities. 5. It is expected that families will be honest and forthright in their admission interview with the principal. Deception and/or failure to notify the school of any condition that could harm either the school or other students will be cause for dismissal. Thus, any admission decision rests with the principal. The three categories of students are defined/distinguished as follows: Parish Members – Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must be registered, active, and contributing members of St. Mary’s Parish. These students are subject to financial contribution and full fees. Financial contribution is based upon a percentage of income. Catholics outside St. Mary’s Parish – Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must be registered, active, and contributing members in their Catholic parish. A letter of recommendation is required from the pastor of the student’s home parish. These students are subject to fees and tuition as established by the finance council. All Others – These students are subject to full fees and tuition as established by the finance council. Students requesting admission to St. Mary’s school will be enrolled based on the school’s ability to provide an education consistent with the St. Mary’s School Mission Statement. Determination by the principal may based on: · Personal interviews with the parent(s) or guardian(s) · Personal interviews with the student(s) · Previous academic records · Availability of finances · Student enrollment · Building accessibility · Any other pertinent information St. Mary’s School observes state regulations regarding the age for entry into kindergarten and first grade. A child entering kindergarten must be five (5) years of age by August 1, and a child entering first grade must be six (6) years of age by August 1. The following must be provided at the time of registration: · A birth certificate, · A current and complete medical record, · A baptismal certificate, · The child’s social security number, and · All other information pertinent to the child’s education DRESS CODE All students in kindergarten through grade eight wear school uniforms. Uniform items cam be purchased from our official supplier SchoolBelles, J.C. Penny, or Land’s End. St. Mary’s School provides a uniform closet for those interested in trading or donating uniform items. Although some articles are new, previously worn items are clean and in good condition. All clothing must fit properly; baggy or tight-fitting clothing will not be permitted. If questions about slacks arise regarding types of pockets, shape and length of pant legs, please refer to the SchoolBelles catalogue: Girls’ pleated front twill slacks, Girls’ flat front low rise slacks, Boys’ plain front dress twill trousers, Boys’ pleated front dress twill trousers, Boys’ SchoolBelles’ relaxed fit trousers. These are the type of slacks that are considered St. Mary’s uniform. GIRLS’ UNIFORM (GRADES K-8) GIRLS (Grades 2 and up) MUST WEAR BELTS WITH SLACKS AND/OR SHORTS. All Shoes that come with laces must be tied. SOCKS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES. (Yellow, White, Red, or Navy crew socks, and tights) ACCESSORIES Only simple jewelry (no dangling earrings) Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts may wear their scout uniforms to school on the day of their meeting. The ultimate goal would be to NOT wear anything offensive or distracting. The school administration has the final say if there is any question in the propriety of what is worn. Penney at JCPenney.com/school TRANSFER OF RECORDS When transferring to St. Mary’s School, it is required that a child’s records be forwarded from his or her previous school. Parents or guardians will complete written authorization to facilitate this process. The same is true in the case where a student is transferring to another institution from St. Mary’s School. However, no academic records will be transferred until all fees/debts are paid and all books/materials belonging to the school are returned.
